Top Awards

  • by

Towards the end of October we were very pleased to invite our young people to the Awards Evening, hosted by the City of York Scouts at Askham Bryan College. All members of the group that had earned the Chief Scouts Award for their age group were invited to celebrate their achievement at this event.

Just over 30 children and young people from Dringhouses Scouts were able to attend the event along with others from around the city. This year the format of the event was slightly different which was well received by parents and participants.

About the Top Awards

The Chief Scout Awards represent the highest achievements available in each section of Scouting, which includes Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers. Each award is designed to challenge young people and encourage personal growth, teamwork, and community involvement.

Children and young people earn the Chief Scout’s Award by completing all the Challenge Awards for their age group and a set number of Activity or Staged Activity Badges. For older sections (Explorers and Network), the Platinum and Diamond Awards also involve nights away, service, skills, physical activities, and expeditions

The Chief Scouts Awards are the backbone of the programme for each age group, activity badges let the children and young people work towards the challenge awards and ultimately the Chief Scouts Award. For Scouts and Explorers the the Awards are also closely aligned to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and they encourage service alongside adventure. The Chief Scout’s Awards are stepping stones leading up to the King’s Scout Award, the highest youth award in UK Scouting

Top Awards At Dringhouses Scouts

This year broke records with more than 80 members of Dringhouses Scouts earning a Chief Scouts Award. Later this year we’re hoping to have a Kings Scout Award confirmed as well! This is brilliant recognition of the hard work put in by the leaders to ensure a balanced programme geared towards enabling our members to gain these top awards. And we are grateful to the organising team from the City of York Scouts for providing a venue and event to celebrate the achievement of the children and young people and to recognise all their hard work too.

Our members are able to achieve top awards because of the dedication of all of our volunteer leaders and helpers who give up a little (and sometimes al lot) of their time. Our group continues to grow and we’re always looking for new volunteers to join our amazing team, if you’re interested in supporting us in anyway, please contact us!
